SPREADING THE MESSAGE

By Harriet Howard, DVC-AC
Our Public Affairs Officers have been spreading the boating safety
message for over 60 years. For National Safe Boating Week this
year, May 16-22, an important part of the message once again
is “Wear It!”

Through the years, celebrities including John Amos, Christa Miller,
Rebecca Giddons and Bill Dance have lent their names and voices
in promoting safe boating through the National Safe Boating
Council’s North American Safe Boating Campaign website. This
year, Dan Marino, nationally renowned NFL sports great, will be the Coast Guard Auxiliary‘s NSBW spokesperson, promoting the event with a Kick-Off news conference and taped video Public Service Announcements.
As PA Officers, our goal, also, is to promote the recreational boating safety message to the boating public:

Wear your life jacket.
Get a free Vessel Safety Check.
Take an approved boating safety course.
Don’t drink and drive.

For National Safe Boating Week and all year long, we’ll spread the message of safe and responsible boating.
